Life after closure

For all your help, effort and the good times we've shared over the past 18 months - thankyou. You've been a tremendous team to lead and work with, you've done yourselves proud and deserve every success in whatever you choose to do in the future.

A couple of questions that came up today...


So we're not in the store any more, but I'm being paid for my contracted hours - I'm on garden leave. What does this mean?
It means you still need to be available for shifts to the sum of your contract hours, if we need you to work them. This will be the case until you either redeploy with Carphone Warehouse or 5th February, whichever comes sooner. We don't think we'll need you past January 15th, but if we do, you need to be free to work (subject to the usual availability with Uni etc). We'll always give you notice, and I'll be the one doing the rotas as usual. If in doubt, ring me.

I'm ill/can't do hours on a certain day as something has come up. Who do I speak to?
Just like when we were working, if you can't do a shift we have asked you to do, phone the MOD. Instead of calling the store, however, use the MOD rota in the Closure Pack to find out who MOD is on the day you're ringing about, and ring their business mobile number. Usual conditions apply - phone up when running late or ill at least an hour before your shift.

I need to book a holiday or days off during garden leave to make sure I have those days off. Who do I speak to?
Me, as usual. For holidays, ring me to discuss it. (Let's face it, it's virtually guaranteed... and we can't use your holiday entitlement. Win!). For days off that you'd like reassurance over so you can make plans, use the Day Off Request Form as usual. These won't be carried over to Carphone Warehouse if you redeploy, so bear this in mind when booking them off with me. It's just so we don't ring you up asking you to do a shift when we know you're busy.

I need to speak to someone about my redeployment offer/my options now. Who do I speak to?
We have booked offices in Aintree Racecourse. You can speak to myself, Mossy, Paul Lawton or an AM if you need to - contact details are in your Closure Pack.

As always, I'll gladly help anyone out who needs it - all you need to do is call me and I'll give you all the help I can. Redeployment, job options, references, general questions... anything! It's only a stupid question if you don't ask it.

And once again, for the past 18 months - thankyou for making us the department we were. Best Buy was successful because of the people that worked for us - I'm proud of all of you.

NEW - Redeployment interview dates and times

Good news everyone! Interview dates and times have now been officially arranged from Carphone Warehouse HR and are available on this link - Interview Dates And Times. The most up to date lists are also available in the Hub.

Prepare yourselves as much as possible for your interviews - you are in the best position possible to do this because you are already part of the company. As a start, update your CVs, look at the Carphone 5 Core Values and think of at least two examples to these questions :
 - A great example of providing customer service
 - Your best achievement - what, how, why and when
 - A negative experience you have had as a customer. How did it make you feel? How would you have done things differently?
 - Resolving conflict
 - Resolving customer issues - what, how, why and when
 - Achieving when working as part of a team - what, how, why and when
By no means stop there for your preparation as there's a lot to find out about Carphone! Ask any leader in store for help, advice and experience as we want you to be the best you can be.

Venues are TBC at the moment but will be announced very soon once arranged. Any updates will be posted at the end of this post so keep checking it for more information.

You will of course be given time off from work to attend the interview. If your interview date/time is unsuitable for any other reason, you need to contact Paul Lawton ASAP through the store. Don't wait until you're next in, especially if you are on holiday! - ring up the store and ask to speak to him or Paula.

UPDATE 4/1/12 - Venues have been confirmed as the Raddison Blu in Liverpool for most interviews or Carphone Warehouse - Parker Street for others. The interview list has been updated.
